How to Use Magicplan’s LiDAR Scan Like a Pro (No Tape Measure Required)

Whether you're flipping a house, upgrading your Airbnb, or renovating your forever home precision matters. Here’s how to scan your room like a pro using just your phone and Magicplan’s LiDAR tech.

If You’re Serious About ROI, Start With the Right Measurements

Design isn’t just about looks—it’s about smart decisions. And that starts with knowing exactly what you’re working with.

Whether you’re a real estate investor, a homeowner tackling a remodel, or an Airbnb host giving your house a glow-up, accurate measurements are non-negotiable.   Magicplan’s Auto Scan (LiDAR) turns your phone into a design laser. Fast, detailed, and way more accurate than winging it with a tape measure.

Here’s how to use it right.

Step-by-Step: How to Scan Your Bathroom Using Magicplan LiDAR

1. Install/Open the App
Start a new room and select Auto Scan (LiDAR)

2. Get Centered
Stand in the middle of the room so your phone has clear line-of-sight to all the walls.

3. Set the First Corner
Point at the corner where two walls meet (ideally at the baseboard), and tap to mark it. Start in a clean, square spot.

4. Rotate Clockwise
Slowly move around the room, marking each corner in a circle.

5. Complete the Shape
Finish by tapping your starting point again. Magicplan will snap walls to clean 90° angles if it makes sense.

6. Lock It In
Use a laser measure (or tape if you must) to measure at least two walls and enter those numbers manually. That locks in the scan’s accuracy.

7. Add the Details
Doors, windows, shower niches - stand in front of each, tap, and follow the prompts to enter size and placement.

Pro Tips That Save Time (and Regret)

  • Light = Accuracy. Good lighting helps the camera find corners. Avoid shadows or blinding sun.

  • Keep your distance. Stay 3–7 feet from the wall while scanning.

  • Use baseboards. They’re the best spot for LiDAR to read floor-to-wall lines accurately.

  • Go slow in small rooms. Bathrooms and powder rooms need extra precision.

  • Verify at least two wall lengths. That’s what anchors your floor plan.

  • Skip the features until the perimeter’s done. You want the shape right before the details.

  • Practice on a simple room first. A square bedroom’s perfect for learning the flow.

Why This Matters for STR Owners and Real Estate Investors

In short-term rentals, the design isn’t just décor it’s strategy. That primary bath can mean five-star reviews or “meh” ratings. In flips, every tile line and vanity choice feeds your resale price. In your own home? This is your daily experience, so let’s make it work beautifully.

A bad measurement ripples through your whole renovation. But a solid scan sets the stage for:

  • Cohesive, high-impact design

  • Smarter material orders

  • Faster decision-making

  • Higher ROI whether you’re hosting, flipping, or just finally upgrading your own space

Once your scan is ready, send it to us and we’ll take it from there:
